I’d rather watch than direct.
Hi, I’m Raveen, and Ethereal Frames is my studio.
I’ve spent the last four years photographing weddings and elopements in and around Vancouver. Along the way I worked as a portrait photographer at The Artona Group and with the visual artist Dina Goldstein. Both taught me a lot about light, mood and directing a scene. Weddings pulled me the other way, toward moments nobody can direct. I still use what I learned there, I just point it at real things now.
What I’m looking for
I started Ethereal Frames because the pictures I loved most were never the posed ones. They were a hand on a back, someone laughing a second before they meant to, the quiet right after the vows.
So I watch more than I direct. I try to be in the right place a beat early and then leave the moment alone. The edit is filmic and a little moody, and I want the photos to still feel right in thirty years.
How we’ll work
I won’t ask you to do anything that feels unnatural. If the light’s great or you look a bit stuck, I’ll give you something simple to do. Otherwise I step back and let you get on with your day.
I’ve photographed couples on a mountaintop in Whistler, in a Summerland vineyard and under the cherry blossoms at Queen Elizabeth Park. The best frames from every one of those days came from the same place: two people who forgot I was there.

Why I still shoot film
I shoot 35mm because of what it does to skin, grain and the soft grey light we get on the West Coast. You get fewer frames and a slower pace, and people tend to relax because of it.
My film couples sessions usually happen somewhere along the coast, and the rolls come back with a warmth I’ve never managed to fake in an edit.
