Embroidery, gold and a quiet room in Vancouver.
South Asian bridal wear is a gift to photograph. The embroidery, the gold, the weight of the fabric. For this editorial portrait session in Vancouver we kept things slow and let the outfit and the mood do most of the work.
I worked with soft light and let the bride move at her own pace, catching the folds of fabric as they shifted instead of directing every pose.
The room helped. Velvet, warm gold and a lot of shadow gave the frames a painterly feel without needing much else.
Bridal portraits don’t have to be stiff. A bit of time, good light and very little direction go a long way.
